God loves to spend time with his kids, and my daily quiet time with the Lord each day is one of my most treasured moments.
As I look back at the different seasons of my life, I see that my quiet time looks different now than when my kids were little. We all have different seasons in our lives, and there will be times that your quiet time has to change. In fact, the Bible talks about that in Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV) which says, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
Here are five of my favorite things to do with my quiet time, as I’ve navigated through the various seasons of my life, and perhaps these will inspire ideas for you about your current season of quiet time:
- Change location – While I love sitting in my comfy chair sipping coffee, sometimes it’s nice to go into my home office and pull out my Bible at my desk. Like me, you may find that it’s so much easier to write in your journal, or in the margins of your Bible, when you have a solid surface in front of you.
- Take a prayer walk – When the weather’s nice, it’s amazing how much conversation you can have with the Lord when you’re walking down a neighborhood trail while noticing the beauty of God’s creation.
- Read a devotion in the YouVersion Bible App – There are a lot of great devotions on this free app, but a couple of my favorites are Pastor Brenda’s Daily Decree plans. All you need to do is download the app, search her name, and you’ll not only be encouraged for your day, but you’ll be able to decree over your family and your life too.
- Pastors’ books – Reading any of Pastors Hank and Brenda’s books are a great way to study God’s Word and encourage you in whatever season you are in.
- Review your notes from the Lord of Hosts Church services or even rewatch the services – Pastors Hank and Brenda preach power-packed messages every Sunday and Wednesday, and it’s a great way to get in the Word by going back and studying the messages from Pastors.
Whichever of these ideas you choose to implement into your quiet time, I believe you will walk through your day with a new look at your season, and a fresh word in your heart. God bless you!
