Have you ever wondered if you “missed it?” Maybe you made a decision that you later realized probably wasn’t the best decision. Maybe you started a business or a project and hit a roadblock or faced resistance that left you questioning if you really did hear from God. You’re not alone, friend. We all do! In fact, these are the moments when the devil likes to sneak in and make us feel these things.
But let me tell you — God has different thoughts about those moments, and He declares it loud in Psalm 37:23 which says, “The steps of a [good] man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way [and He busies Himself with his every step].” (Amplified Classic)
I just love how that version of the Bible captures the heart of God when it comes to our decisions. and if I were to pick out a couple of my favorite words in that verse they would be “delights” and “busies.” The word “delights” means that God is happy hanging out with us in the process, and he loves to be with us as we’re taking steps – even if they’re in directions that may not be ideal at the time. The word “busies” means that we are keeping God busy with every step we take. God is never bored with us when we’re taking steps.
But if we read the next verse in Psalm 37, we also see this: “Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord grasps his hand in support and upholds him.” Did you catch the first words in that verse? “Though he falls.” That means that we will stumble, make a bad decision, or “miss it.” God has already factored in the stumble when he looks at the future successes of our lives! He’s right there ready to catch us, give us support, and hold us up. Much like a loving father with a child who is learning how to walk, God is a good dad ready to catch, encourage, and redirect us.
So, anytime the enemy tries to sneak in and whisper in your ear that you missed it, brush him off and remind him (and yourself too!) that God has ordered your steps and He’s already factored that into your success. You didn’t miss it. Your steps are ordered, and God’s got a beautiful plan ahead for you!
