Have you ever really thought about the responsibility we have as believers in this world? Do you realize what Jesus is trusting us with? After Jesus rose from the dead, and before he ascended to heaven, he told his disciples, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20, NKJV).
Jesus has given us the honor to continue his work on the earth but thankfully he is not leaving us to do it alone. Scripture gives us insight into the power and authority that Jesus died to gain for us. Revelation 5:12 (NKJV) says that Jesus was slain “to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” He did this so that his grace would empower us for each of our specific assignments.
Second Peter 1:3 (NIV) says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” As we grow in our relationship with God through prayer and getting rooted in the word, we tap into the power that we need to be effective for the kingdom of God.
Let us not forget we have been placed in our specific jobs, families, and cities to be a light (Matthew 5:14-16). And that light is powered by the oil of the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:18). You have the authority to take on the spirits of darkness of this world and bring the kingdom of heaven down to earth (John 14:12). I encourage you: Go be the catalyst for kingdom change in your spheres of influence.
