Going Deeper in Our Faith

The heartbeat of Lord of Hosts Church is to encourage everyone to go deeper in their faith every day. Pastor Hank and Pastor Brenda set an incredible example of what it means to live and breathe every moment of our lives through the lens of God’s word and our responsibility is to follow their lead by allowing the Lord to kindle a deep and unquenchable passion to grow closer and closer to Him.

What does it mean to have an unquenchable passion to seek the Lord all day, every day, and in all we do? Should we run away to a monastery far from civilization where we can pray and study the Bible day and night? That might be fun for a week or so but it would be no way to live and would completely deny the Great Commission from Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) where, after the resurrection, Jesus commands his 11 disciples to, “… go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Does an unquenchable passion mean attending church services? That’s a great start because it allows us to gather and worship together, with our voices and with our tithes and offerings. When we’re present with other believers under the anointing of the Lord, whether virtually or in person, our lives are shaped by connecting with the living God and by being ministered to by His Holy Spirit

King David understood this passion. In Psalm 42:1-2 (NKJV), he reflects on a worship song from the sons of Korah which says, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” Original Hebrew manuscripts finish verse 2 with, “When shall I see the face of God?”

It wasn’t until I became a member of Lord of Hosts Church, and sat under the leadership of Pastor Hank and Pastor Brenda, that I was challenged to go much deeper, to seek the face of God, and to truly live as a joint heir with our Savior, Jesus Christ. I realized my walk with God was mostly on the surface and that my life in Christ could be so much more. Not in a condemning way, because condemnation does not come from God; He was calling me to go deeper. This is where the Lord began imparting in me an unquenchable passion for Him to take over my life.

No matter where we’re at, how long we’ve walked with the Lord, or how strong our faith is, there’s a deeper place in Him that the Lord is calling us to, where we will find an unquenchable passion.

This week, take time to meditate on Psalm 42, and to also learn about the sons of Korah (the Korahites) whose lineage served many kings of Judah, including David, as musicians, worship leaders, doorkeepers, and soldiers.

We love you and hope you have an incredible week seeking an unquenchable passion for the Lord!
