Honoring Your Pastor

The Oxford Language Dictionary states that the meaning of honor is to regard with respect. Nowadays, honor is a lost art. However, honor should be alive and well in the body of Christ. The Bible says in Jer. 3:15, And I will give you shepherds after My Own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.” These are vessels from God that have answered His call to teach us. The Amplified Bible also calls them “gifts” in Eph. 4:11. God did this to fully equip us for the work of the ministry. These vessels that God has chosen deserve honor.

How do you honor your Pastor? One way is to serve somewhere in the ministry of helps. Always be on time, cheerful, and willing to go the extra mile. Serve with excellence and be one that others want to be around. Another way is to submit to those that have been appointed to leadership positions. When you treat them well and serve diligently, you are not only honoring your Pastor, but you are being grateful to God for what He has given you. If you are serving as a leader, embrace the vision of the house and pursue it with vigor.

Lastly, and most importantly, honor your Pastor by praying constantly for them. Pray for their wellbeing, their families, and all that concerns them. The Apostle Paul asked for prayer many times in the Bible. One of those prayer requests can be found in Eph.6:19-20 that says, “and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

There are numerous ways to honor your Pastor. Acknowledge their birthdays, anniversaries, and achievements. Drop them notes from time to time letting them know how much you appreciate them and how much the words they have spoken have impacted you and your family. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you!
