Joint Heirs with Jesus

Hello, I am Tasha Pettigrew, and I work for Lord of Hosts Church. Thank you for stopping by to read this today. We are so excited that you are an e-member! Together we are one body, or one army, who is victoriously occupying until the Lord returns.

Have you ever had just one word speak to you from the Word of God? The other day I was praying and, as I have often done, I started with the Lord’s Prayer. Found in Luke 11:1-4, it says, “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.’ So He said unto them, ‘When you pray, say: OUR Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.’”

I like decreeing these words of the Lord’s Prayer over my family, church, city, state, and nation. As I was talking to God that day, He took me right back to the beginning of that prayer — the first word to be exact. As soon as I said the word, “our,” I got it! Jesus was being asked by His disciples to teach them to pray. I saw the literal sense of the word “our” as meaning belonging to or connected with. I believe He was taking this moment in time to share the significance with His disciples that they had the same access to God, the Creator of the universe, as He does.

Do you have a sibling? If you do, when you refer to your parents, you say, "our mom,” or “our dad." If you are married and have children, you say, "our children.” The word “our” signifies joint ownership. I cannot count the number of times I have decreed the Lord’s Prayer over my family and, as I do, I personalize it with the names of my family members.

Is it not just like God to stop us in our tracks and provide golden nuggets of His personal interest in us? So, the next time you pray "Our Father" remember you are joint heirs with Jesus and connected to all the blessings. I am praying “Our Father” blesses you today exceedingly abundantly above all that you can ask or think.
