I was at our Sunday morning service when our praise team started singing about the goodness of God. At that moment, I felt the presence of God move into the room. I saw tears running down the faces of men, women, young, and old. It caused me to reflect on the goodness of God in my life.
I thought back to how God had protected me when I was a young, noncommissioned officer in the military. Thinking I was making the right choices for my life, only to find out years later that if some of those decisions had gone through, my career would have been cut short. It was God’s goodness that directed my action and preserved me.
Back to the service, our Pastor took the stage and I listened how he prophesied the heart of God to the people. He spoke to those in the service, and on our livestream, who were going through medical, money, and relationship issues. I marveled at how God poured out His goodness over the people about the issues they were dealing with. I thought about how God cares about the little things, as well as the big issues in our lives.
Exodus 33:19 (KJV) came to my mind where the Lord said, “I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.”
I also thought about a chapter from Pastor Brenda’s book, Daily Decrees for Family Blessing and Breakthrough (a must read!). On pages 26-27, Pastor shares a word of encouragement. She says, “One of the greatest things God wants His people to understand about His character is that He is good!” She goes on to say, “He wants to extend His goodness toward you! Begin each day expecting His goodness to surround you!”
