Tucked away in the hills of the Pacific Northwest, there is a Bible Museum that I had the privilege of touring, and it is there that I learned the secret of the mantle — which I’m about to share with you.
The secret of the mantle is that a mantle is the fabric that covers the scroll of the Word of God. Years ago, the Bible was written on a scroll, instead of in a book, and to protect and safeguard the scroll, there was fabric that went around the scroll and that fabric was called a mantle. The fabric was made of expensive material, often majestically embroidered, and it wasn’t made for any other purpose except to cover the scroll.
So when you look at someone like Pastor Hank or Pastor Brenda, and you see such a large spiritual mantle, authority, or anointing upon their lives, what is hidden or protected inside that mantle is the Word of God, or the scroll; that is, the living Word that resides within them. It’s decades worth of them reading and studying the Word of God and of them hiding the Word of God within their heart. Just like it says in Psalms 119:11, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
We see symbols of the mantle with Jesus himself. Jesus is the Word of God according to John 1:1 which says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” And we know that Jesus was covered in a robe without a seam, which is symbolic of a mantle covering him — who is the Word (John 19:23).
So, if you want a greater mantle upon your life, you want to put more of the Word inside you. As you become more of the living Word, a mantle comes upon your life because the mantle protects the Word. The mantle covers the Word. That is the job of the mantle. So now you know … the secret of the mantle.
